John Carpenter put her in front of a camera at age ten to play an emotionless girl in Village of the Damned. It was 1995, and Lindsey Haun already understood that genre cinema demanded a technical restraint few adults manage to pull off. Those clear eyes and that absolute stillness were not a postproduction trick.
Her father was a guitarist and her mother a choreographer. But music was never just background noise in her Los Angeles home during her childhood. In 2005, she signed with Toby Keith's label to release a country album. The song Broken played on the radio while she tried to figure out whether she wanted to be a Southern pop star or a reliable supporting actress.
She chose not to choose.
Her biggest commercial break came in 2009 with the role of Hadley Hale on True Blood. Playing Sookie Stackhouse's cousin let her explore an erratic range over several seasons. She worked under Alan Ball and learned how HBO's machinery worked from the inside before making the leap to directing.
In 2013, she founded her own production company, Haun Solo Productions. She began directing short films because she was tired of waiting for the phone to ring with the perfect role. Her short Coming To in 2015 explored waking up after a night of excess with a rawness far removed from the glow of her Disney Channel years.
During 2023, she premiered Hanky Panky, an absurd horror comedy where a cocktail napkin comes to life. The project grew out of a close collaboration with Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney. It's a small film, shot with friends in a cabin in Utah, but it defines her interest in independent cinema that doesn't ask the big studios for permission.
And the gamble paid off.
Because Haun prefers total control over aesthetics to the prestige of the red carpet. In 2024, she remains active on the genre festival circuit, where her work as a director tends to be better received than her television performances. She isn't seeking validation from traditional critics.
Before shooting each scene, she often works out the actors' choreography with a precision inherited from her mother. As a result, her films have an inner rhythm shaped by physical movement. In 2025, she plans to begin preproduction on a new psychological horror project with a budget under $1 million.
Filming for Hanky Panky lasted just eighteen days in an isolated location under extreme weather conditions.
