Mia Tomlinson understood early on that filmmaking is about carrying cables before memorizing lines. In 2017 she worked as a production assistant on commercial and short film shoots in London. She was less interested in the close-up than in understanding how the industry really works from the inside.
This formative stage, away from the spotlight, gave her a competitive edge. Still, her true calling won out after she studied at the University of Birmingham and decided to step behind the camera.
The change was complete.
Her first breakout moment came in 2021 with the Netflix series The Lost Pirate Kingdom. Playing pirate Anne Bonny required a mix of physical toughness and charisma that few candidates could convey in auditions. Tomlinson shot much of her scenes with an intensity that jumped off the screen.
And the gamble paid off.
That same 2021, she shared the screen with Jared Harris in The Beast Must Die. In this British production, she played Lena, a role that allowed her to move away from pure action and explore suspense drama. The specialized press began to take notice of her ability to hold silence without losing tension.
She landed three major contracts in less than twelve months after this premiere. Tomlinson doesn't need big gestures to fill the frame, and casting directors value that over fleeting fame.
In 2023, she joined the cast of The Burning Girls, a series that blends religious fanaticism with rural mystery. There she worked under Charles Martin and shared scenes with Samantha Morton on a set filled with prosthetics and dark makeup.
But her ambitions don't stop at acting. Tomlinson keeps her work as a filmmaker and original content creator active from her base in London. In 2024, she premiered Cinderella's Revenge, a bloody version of the classic fairy tale where horror replaces traditional magic.
The industry was no longer a strange place.
This genre film was a major physical challenge due to the use of practical effects and fake blood on set. The film's budget was stretched to the limit to prioritize the visual impact of the on-screen deaths. She had to learn to shoot choreographed action sequences in record time.
After finishing filming her final scenes in 2024, she focused on developing original scripts for her own production company. The distribution contract for her next project was signed in London offices under strict confidentiality clauses and a closed production schedule.
