Park So-jin didn't start in front of a film camera but on a Korean pop music stage. In 2010, she led a four-member girl group trying to carve out a place in an industry that chews up names every week. That run lasted nearly a decade. But the real plan was always in the scripts, not the choreography.
The shift in direction didn't happen overnight. In 2014, she accepted a supporting role in The Greatest Marriage while still keeping up with international tours. It was a calculated move to avoid a head-on rejection from specialized critics. She knew the stigma of singers trying to act often sinks careers before they take off.
And the gamble paid off.
By the time her contract with her music agency ended in 2019, she already had one foot in the television industry. She didn't go straight for lead roles because that would have been a tactical trap. She preferred small parts that let her learn the craft without the pressure of mass audiences or sponsors.
Her professional turning point came between late 2019 and early 2020 with the series Stove League. She played a sports journalist named Kim Young-chae. It was a dry, technical role. The production won the Best Series award at the Baeksang Arts Awards, which validated her name among Seoul's most demanding casting directors.
From there, her work pace picked up. In 2020, she took part in The King: Eternal Monarch, and in 2021 she shot the film Zombie Crush: Heyri. That last movie let her explore a more physical and less constrained style than her usual television work.
Nobody remembered her past on the music charts anymore.
In 2022, she joined the cast of Alchemy of Souls to play Kim Do-joo. It was a long and complex shoot, split into two parts, that ran until 2023. The series performed very well on global platforms and gave her international visibility she had not had until that point in her adult life.
During 2023, she lined up three major projects: Bo-ra! Deborah, Delightfully Deceitful, and the film Moradong. At this stage, her characters began to show a different kind of maturity. The Korean market values longevity over fleeting glamour, and she understood that rule better than her generational peers.
In November 2023, she married actor Lee Dong-ha in a private ceremony in Seoul. The event barely interrupted her filming schedule. For So-jin, work on set is a matter of technical discipline, not celebrity ambition.
By 2024, her appearance in the series Wedding Impossible confirmed that her schedule was booked months in advance. Production of Moradong set its final budget at around 3,000 million won before its distribution across commercial circuits.
