From the Costa Rican jungle to the Berlin asphalt

Ruby O. Fee was born in San José, Costa Rica, in 1996 with a name that sounds like it came from an adventure novel: Ruby Moonstone Camilla Willow Fee. Her childhood was anything but conventional, as she grew up in Brazil before settling in Germany in 2008. That mix of cultures and landscapes shaped a personality that did not fit the rigid molds of traditional European cinema.

She landed in Berlin without a command of the language, but with an powers of observation that made up for any verbal shortcomings. In 2010, she landed her first major role in the teen series Allein gegen die Zeit. That experience was her real acting school. There she learned that acting means enduring endless waits in trailers and then delivering your very best in just two minutes of footage.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2014, she starred in Bibi & Tina under the direction of Detlev Buck. It was a job that gave her massive commercial visibility among German teen audiences. But Ruby was looking for projects that demanded more than a smile in front of the camera. She wanted to break away from the teen actress image the industry was determined to impose on her.

The Risks of Art-House Cinema

In 2015, filming began on Als wir träumten. The film premiered in the official selection at the Berlinale and changed how the specialized press viewed her work. Playing Sternchen in a story about young people after the fall of the Berlin Wall allowed her to explore much rawer registers. Director Andreas Dresen trusted her with a role that demanded a very specific kind of vulnerability.

She didn't want to be just the friendly face of domestic productions.

During those years, she alternated television work with forays into independent film. In 2016, she shot Zazy, and a year later she took part in Die Unsichtbaren. The German industry began to see her as an actress capable of carrying complex storylines without relying on big gimmicks. But the German market was too small for her international ambitions.

In 2019, she made her definitive leap into the global market with Polar. Sharing scenes with Mads Mikkelsen in a big-budget production for digital platforms changed her reach. Playing Sindy demanded a level of physical effort and discipline she had not experienced in her previous shoots in Central Europe. It was the moment her name started to come up with casting agencies in Los Angeles.

Production and the global market

In 2021, she joined the cast of Army of Thieves as Korina. This prequel to Zack Snyder zombie franchise allowed her to explore the heist genre with a touch of comedy. During filming, she bonded with Matthias Schweighöfer. Her personal relationship with the German actor and director carried over into business as well, through the production company Pantaleon Films.

Ruby began to take an interest in the decision-making processes behind the cameras. She understood that to have control over her career, she had to get involved in financing and developing the scripts.

The strategy was clear.

In 2024, she appeared in the thriller Cult Killer alongside Antonio Banderas and Alice Eve. Filming took place in various locations across Ireland under extreme weather conditions that tested the production's logistics. In this project, she played a supporting role that was nonetheless key to resolving the suspense plot. It was one of her last appearances before she focused on her own in-house development projects.

The film The Invisible Raptor from 2023 had an estimated budget of two million dollars and a very limited run in commercial theaters in the United States.
