Sarah Catherine Hook never thought about red carpets while studying classical singing in New York. Her training at the SUNY Purchase conservatory pointed straight toward opera stages, but acting ended up winning out over sheet music. She was born in Montgomery in 1995 and grew up surrounded by an academic discipline she would later apply to her celebrity roles.
Her arrival in television was neither explosive nor immediate. She appeared in smaller productions and short films while looking for a foothold in the East Coast industry. Her training as a soprano gave her a level of physical control that caught the attention of casting directors in her first serious auditions.
Music took a back seat.
In 2017, she got her first real break with a small role in the series The Path. It was a brief taste of life on set that showed her her future lay well beyond the musical theater stage. So she decided to move and bet everything on television drama.
In 2021, she joined the cast of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. It was her first major exposure to global audiences, playing Debbie Glatzel in a franchise that rarely overlooks mistakes. She carried the dramatic weight in scenes of extreme physical tension without relying on the usual horror genre tricks.
And the gamble paid off.
Netflix gave her her first leading role in First Kill in 2022. The teen vampire series was aiming for a quick impact, and Hook played Juliette Fairmont with a restraint that stood out from the rest of the cast. But the platform decided to cancel the show after just one season, despite strong viewership numbers in its first weeks.
This financial setback for the production company did not slow her rise. Hook used the wave of popularity to move away from purely youth-oriented projects and seek work with greater critical weight. After all, her long-term goal was always to avoid being typecast in high school stories.
In 2025, she joined the cast of the third season of The White Lotus. Filming in Thailand under the direction of Mike White marked her definitive entry into the group of actors that international critics follow closely. Being part of an anthology series of this caliber usually guarantees a level of visibility that fantasy projects rarely achieve.
She also stars in the reboot of Cruel Intentions for Amazon Prime Video. In this version, she plays Caroline Merteuil and takes on the risk of updating a character who was central to 1990s pop culture. The production contract required specific training to handle the dark humor and cynicism the script demands.
In 2024, she finished filming her scenes in Toronto after a five-month shooting schedule. The series' final budget exceeded $60 million.
