Philippe Abrams has spent years running a post office in Salon-de-Provence, in the south of France. He lives with his wife, Julie, and their son, Rafael, and at home Julie never stops pushing him to request a post near the Mediterranean. Philippe wants to please her, but his transfer requests fail one after another. Fed up with waiting, he starts looking for a way out that will bring him closer to his goal, while the pressure at home shapes his every move. Trivia about Welcome to the Sticks

Dany Boon had already explored the North in his 2003 stage show «A s'baraque et en ch'ti», and some of the film's gags and lines came from it.

For the German dub, the studio didn't use an existing dialect; instead, it invented a new one that sounds as close as possible to Ch'ti.

The end credits feature outtakes from the shoot, which play across the screen as the credits roll.

With 20,449,079 admissions, it is the most successful French film in France, ahead of La Grande Vadrouille, and only Titanic has outsold it at the country's box office overall.

The screenplay was nominated for a César Award in the Best Original Screenplay category, with Maxime Quoilin handling the nomination.

Kad Merad wasn't Dany Boon's first choice to play Philippe Abrams: co-producer Richard Pezet, of Pathé, suggested his name to the director.

Filming in Bergues took three weeks and two days, during May and June 2007; more than a thousand candidates auditioned to fill 200 extras.

The bridge scene in which the characters urinate into the canal was shot without special effects: Kad Merad and Dany Boon had drunk beer to portray the drunkenness called for in the script.
