We are in the Republic of Salò, in northern Italy, in 1944 and 1945, when the country is still under Nazi occupation and the end of World War II is approaching. Four wealthy, corrupt libertines, figures of Fascist Italy, hold a group of young people they have kidnapped. The masters impose on the prisoners a set of rules that only they control, and anyone who breaks them will pay for it. The first segment, titled Anteinferno, shows how this forced coexistence between victims and executioners is organized. The young people obey almost without speaking, while the four men watch and decide the fate of each one. Pier Paolo Pasolini directs the film, which opens with this premise of absolute power.
