What Season 1 of Barbarians

Barbarians is set in Germania Magna, between the Rhine and the Elbe, at the end of year 9 AD. Rome has occupied the region for about twenty years and demands heavy tribute from the Germanic tribes. The tribes are divided: their chieftains clash over minor feuds, and some prefer peace with the Empire. Arminius, raised as a hostage in Rome and now an army officer, returns to his homeland to help Varus, his adoptive father, keep order. Along the way he crosses paths with Thusnelda and Folkwin, two Germans who must decide where their loyalties lie. The season revolves around those decisions and the tension between loyalties, with Laurence Rupp in the lead role.
