Steven Avery has just finished serving a sentence for a crime he says he didn't commit. After eighteen years behind bars, he wants the mistake to be acknowledged and those who locked him up to be held accountable. His fight pits him against Manitowoc County in Wisconsin and its sheriff's department, which defends its decisions. Soon a new murder charge sends him back to prison. The series follows the process through footage of the families, the lawyers and the courts. His attorneys argue that officers framed him on purpose, while the county maintains that it acted properly. Viewers must weigh the facts for themselves.
