What Season 13 of Vera

Vera Stanhope investigates in Northumberland with Joe Ashworth, her sergeant and right-hand man, whom she treats almost like a son. The Detective Chief Inspector is nearly retired, but her obsession with the job keeps her on the force. Her grumpy temper doesn't stop her from caring about her team, and her calculating mind spots flaws in everyone else's reasoning. The first case begins at the market, where a dishonest trader is apparently hit by a car and the driver flees, and a familiar face reappears at the scene. Then, a sick young woman turns up on a dead-end railway track, in the middle of nowhere. Vera wonders who she really was and whether her weakness allowed someone to take advantage of her. Later, a chip shop becomes the starting point for a case full of secrets and lies.
