Before stepping onto a Los Angeles set, Adam Demos worked for his father's demolition company in Wollongong. He tore down walls and broke up ground under the Australian sun while saving money for an acting course in Sydney. There was no clear Plan B, but there was a physical determination that he would later bring to his characters.
In 2009, he landed his first credited role on the series Home and Away. It was a brief appearance, but it showed him that the pace of the industrial TV world demanded a discipline he already had from the stage.
The industry didn't hand him anything.
He spent years landing supporting roles in local productions such as Rescue Special Ops or Winners & Losers. In 2017, his luck changed when he was cast in the third season of UnREAL. He played August Walker, and that was the first time American audiences got a look at the New South Wales actor.
The shoot moved to Vancouver, and Demos had to adapt to a much more demanding production system. Fifteen-hour days were the norm. In cable television, time is an asset nobody wants to waste.
The real commercial breakthrough came through streaming platforms. In 2019, he starred in the romantic comedy Falling Inn Love alongside Christina Milian. It was a project designed for the algorithm that worked thanks to the natural chemistry between its leads.
But the global phenomenon didn't take off until 2021 with the premiere of Sex/Life.
The Netflix series sparked massive buzz over a particular shower scene. Demos handled the media noise with careful distance. He knew his physique was the way in, but he worked to give the character of Brad Simon more depth beyond the shock value.
During that shoot, he met Sarah Shahi, and their personal relationship became tabloid material. Demos avoided overexposing himself on social media. He preferred to let his work speak for him while the series racked up 449 million viewing hours in its first weeks.
Success is a double-edged sword in Hollywood.
In 2022, he reunited with Netflix for A Perfect Pairing. The shoot took place in Queensland, which allowed him to work close to his family. The movie hit No. 1 on the viewing charts in more than 80 countries during its first week in the catalog.
Demos began looking for projects that moved beyond pure romance and into action and procedural drama. In 2024, he joined the cast of Rescue: HI-Surf, a Fox production from John Wells. He plays Will Ready in a drama about lifeguards on the North Shore of Oahu.
The shoot in Hawaii required specific physical training for the open-water rescue scenes. Demos prefers to perform his own high-risk stunts whenever the production company's insurance allows it. So he spent months perfecting his swimming technique in extreme surf conditions.
The series received a full-season order with 19 initial episodes. The budget per episode exceeded five million dollars in direct production costs.
