From the Stethoscope to the Billboard

Adriana Karembeu measures 1.85 meters and 124 centimeters, and all of that height comes from her legs alone.

This technical feat earned her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, but it also defined a career that began in medical schools in Prague and ended under the spotlights of Paris. In 1994, the lingerie brand Wonderbra was looking for a massive visual impact and found it in this Slovak student who barely spoke French. That ad campaign stopped traffic across half the world and changed the rules of textile marketing at the end of the century.

Medicine lost a doctor, and the industry gained an image.

Her move into film was no accident of the runway but a logical result of her magnetism in front of the camera. Robert Altman cast her in 1994 for Prêt-à-Porter, where she played herself in a choral satire about the fashion world. But her real foray into commercial fiction came with the role of Madame Geriatrix in the blockbuster Astérix aux Jeux Olympiques in 2008. On that shoot she shared the set with Gérard Depardieu and Alain Delon, proving that her physical presence worked just as well in physical comedy as it did on the haute couture runway.

And that was no coincidence.

Unlike many models who fade away after turning thirty, she turned her name into an independently managed brand. She kept the surname of her first husband, footballer Christian Karembeu, even after their divorce in 2011. It was a pragmatic decision, because Karembeu was already a recognized commercial name across Europe. In 2005, she launched her own cosmetics line, Silicium+, and began diversifying her wealth beyond traditional endorsement deals.

A haven in French television

The French audiovisual market embraced her as one of its most profitable and beloved figures. Since 2012, she has hosted the science outreach program Les Pouvoirs extraordinaires du corps humain alongside Michel Cymes. In this show, she stepped away from the glamour of magazine covers to undergo extreme physical tests and explain how the human anatomy works. The program aired for twelve years and drew audiences of over three million viewers during prime time.

Still, her interest in acting never faded completely. In 2021, she joined the cast of the daily series Plus belle la vie, playing a character who played with prejudices about her own fame. It was an exercise in professional self-awareness that local critics praised for its lack of pretension. In 2024, she published her memoir Libre, in which she recounted her childhood under an authoritarian regime in Czechoslovakia and her difficult relationship with her father.

Television gave her the stability that movies offered her only sporadically.

Her work as an ambassador for the French Red Cross since 1999 has been more than a simple image partnership for charity events. She has taken part in real first-aid training missions and fundraising campaigns without interruption. This public role has allowed her to maintain a social relevance that ignores the ups and downs of fashion or age. In 2024, her estimated net worth, according to various financial publications, was above 50 million euros thanks to her real estate investments and advertising contracts.

Adriana Karembeu lives mainly in Marrakech, where she manages part of her hotel business after her second divorce in 2022. The original edition of her biography Libre sold 20,000 copies in its first week of release in France.
