Aimi Satsukawa was born in Shizuoka in 1988. Before stepping onto a film set, she spent her teenage years in competitive rhythmic gymnastics. That physical discipline explains her body control on screen and the absence of unnecessary movement when the camera gets close.

In 2005, Aimi Satsukawa made her big-screen debut. At seventeen, her role as Fuku in The Samurai I Loved earned her first nomination at the Blue Ribbon Awards. It was a dazzling start that she took with a certain detachment.

Her career has not been a bed of roses.

Her change of pace in 2007

Her early years focused on clean-cut image roles. But in 2007, she starred in Funuke Show Some Love, You Losers!, breaking away from that pattern. She played a young woman with a dark personality under the direction of Daihachi Yoshida.

Japanese critics began to see her as more than just a friendly face. That year she earned two simultaneous nominations at the Blue Ribbon Awards. From there, she went on to take on projects that blended art-house cinema with fast-paced commercial productions.

Japan's film industry is merciless toward actresses who fail to define their image quickly. She chose the risk of not being typecast.

Horror and gritty realism

In 2016, she took part in Sadako vs. Kayako. It is a title that any film purist would avoid, but Satsukawa used it to expand her fan base. She is not afraid of genres the academy considers minor.

That same year, she filmed Himeanole. It is a raw film in which her character endures the harassment of a psychopath. The coolness with which she handled the tense scenes confirmed that her range was far wider than her own agents had expected.

And the industry took notice.

Her mature period on screen

Her step into acting maturity came with roles such as Love Life in 2022. In 2024, she premiered Doku Musume and Buzzy Noise. These productions confirm she remains a key part of directors' work when they seek naturalness without artifice.

For 2025, she has the premiere of the series Kiss de Fusaide, Bare naide scheduled. She will also appear in The Secret Kitchen during 2026. Her schedule is full of significant side projects and leading roles in the independent Japanese circuit.

Her height of 152 centimeters has not stopped her from mastering complex framing. In 2024, her filmography surpassed sixty titles across film and television.
