Anchal Singh is no newcomer to the Indian industry, despite what Netflix metrics suggest. Before becoming Purva Awasthi, she went through hundreds of anonymous shoots. We're talking about a woman who racked up more than 300 advertisements for global brands before the general public knew her name.

This stage gave her a mechanical technique and a resilience that few method actors could endure. In 2013, she made her film debut in the Sri Lankan movie Sri Siddhartha Gautama, playing Princess Yashodhara. It was an unusual start for an actress born in Chandigarh. But the Bollywood market is a different machine that demands higher tolls.

She was an ant in a nest of giants.

In 2013, she also appeared in Ramaiya Vastavaiya (a Prabhu Deva production), although her role was a cameo. Over the following years, her face appeared on every television in the country selling beauty products or technology, but her name remained outside the main credits. The industry saw her as a model who acted (rather than the other way around).

The streaming boom in 2020

In 2020, the series Undekhi dramatically changed her call volume. Playing Teji Grewal allowed her to leave the loop of advertising and move into criminal suspense. Here, Singh showed she could carry the weight of a dense plot without flinching. And the bet paid off.

Soon after, the project that put her on the international radar arrived. In 2022 she played Purva in Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (one of Netflix India's big bets). Her character was an obsessive, powerful woman who flipped traditional gender roles in the conventional thriller. Critics praised her cool presence on camera.

In 2021, she took part in Dhindora as Dr. Tara. The project was born in the YouTube ecosystem but reached massive audiences across Asia. Singh quickly realized that prestige was no longer measured only on the big screen of Bombay cinemas.

A precision shooter on set

Away from the spotlight, Singh keeps a discipline that explains her cool screen presence. She is a nationally ranked precision shooter and regularly competes in rifle shooting tournaments. This side of her private life often surprises casting directors who are looking for more delicate profiles.

Her aim was not just a metaphor.

Beyond martial arts, she trains her mind as a reader of Akashic records and a professional tarot reader. It's not a weekend hobby (it's a practice she builds into her character preparation). She says it helps her understand the energy of scripts before stepping onto the set.

In 2022 she filmed the second season of Undekhi, keeping her status as a key figure in television drama. Her per-episode pay doubled compared to the series' first installment. Her exclusivity contract with certain Asian platforms limited her appearances in regional cinema during 2023.
