Anthony Molinari wasn't looking for the spotlight when he left Worcester to move to Los Angeles. He had a degree in sociology and education under his arm. But California's asphalt offered him a path very different from the classrooms of Massachusetts.
In 2004 he started landing small contracts as a stunt performer. The anonymity of the helmet or the mask of the day didn't bother him. His physical skill earned him work with directors of the caliber of Christopher Nolan on projects that demanded almost suicidal realism.
The fall was real.
During the shoot of The Fighter in 2010, his work was essential in making the boxing sequences credible. There he understood that risk was pointless without an emotion behind it to hold it up. So he began looking for roles where he could also use his voice to complement the punches.
And the plan worked, because his physical presence was as intimidating as his ability to deliver dry dialogue. In 2014, he worked on The Equalizer, bringing the composure that stunt coordinators looked for in supporting villains.
Molinari didn't want to be just the man who takes the hit against the windshield. In 2020 he worked on Tenet under Nolan once again. But this time the technical demands were different, because screen time depended on millimeter-precise movements in reverse.
Nobody handed him anything.
He then decided it was time to tell his own stories from the other side of the lens. He founded his own production company to have full control over the timing of his personal projects. In 2021 he premiered the short film The Gidrah, where he took on the roles of director and screenwriter for the first time.
This step was not the whim of a bored actor. Molinari invested his own money to ensure the aesthetic was the one he had in mind. The production was shot entirely on location in Massachusetts to preserve the gray, industrial atmosphere of his childhood that he was so obsessed with.
Risk was always part of the plan.
In 2024 he worked on the set of Road House, contributing his experience in coordinating hand-to-hand combat sequences. But his focus was already on the feature-length version of The Gidrah, which entered post-production that same period.
Because for him, film stopped being a matter of pure adrenaline a long time ago. Now he prefers to discuss the framing of a lens or the rhythm of an edit in the editing room. The change in role has let him understand the gears of the industry from a much more technical and less physical perspective.
The film had a production budget in line with the standards of American independent cinema from 2025.
