Antonio Casale didn't pursue the microphone out of vanity. In 1990, Colombian radio was the only refuge for a young man who saw entertainment as dramatic storytelling and not just a string of data. He started at the Radioacktiva station when rock still set the rules of cultural consumption in Bogotá.

That period was not just about music. It was the dress rehearsal for what would come next in sports journalism. Casale learned that rhythm is everything and that the voice is a tool of seduction before it is a pure transmitter of information.

In 2004, he founded En la Jugada. The show broke the stiffness of classic commentators who spoke from a pedestal of ties and a grave tone. Casale brought a subjectivity that connected with an audience tired of empty statistics. But the success also brought a division of opinion in a country where soccer is lived like a civil religion.

The Screen That Amplified the Echo

Television came as an inevitable consequence of his weight on the airwaves. His hiring by ESPN in 2011 gave him continental visibility that few journalists of his generation had reached. The screen demands a gestural style that Casale quickly built into his professional repertoire.

In 2015, he took on challenges in shows such as Fútbol para todos, where analysis mixed with humor. But constant exposure comes at a high price. In 2018, criticism on social media became a constant part of his daily routine, and the journalist had to shield his voice.

He learned to handle digital noise with composure.

Because the industry doesn't forgive a lack of character. Casale stayed true to a passionate style that sometimes led to clashes with colleagues from the old guard. So he decided the best way to survive was to take control of the production controls, not just the content of the script.

Taking over sports at RCN Radio in 2019 marked a definitive change of direction. It was no longer just about speaking in front of a mic, but about deciding who spoke and under what conditions. Managing teams in an industry in the middle of transformation requires a very thick skin.

In 2023 he bet on on-demand audio formats that aimed to revive the essence of unhurried conversation. Traditional radio remains his home base, but the digital world is where he fights his most complex battles for the audience's attention.

The gamble paid off.

By late 2024, his podcasting projects were drawing more downloads than traditional shows in the same time slot. Casale believes the business is no longer about airwaves, but algorithms. He remains in his sports director role under a contract locked in through the end of the decade.
