Exile Through a Screenplay

In 1966, one of the most enigmatic figures in the international industry was born in Chengdu. Before stepping onto a set, she spent three years in the Chinese army, serving as a nurse in Tibet. That military discipline soon clashed with her need to act in Beijing's theater.

And the gamble paid off.

She arrived in New York in 1991 barely speaking English, but with a scholarship to New York University in hand. Her role in The Crow in 1994 opened the doors of major studios to her. But it was her part in Red Corner in 1997 that severed her ties with her home country.

The Chinese government revoked her citizenship after the release of this political thriller. That administrative decision pushed her to finally build an identity of her own in California.

Reinvention in Genre Cinema

In the late nineties, her name appeared on lists of the most beautiful women in the world. She took part in blockbusters such as Wild Wild West and Ana and the King, where she shared the screen with Jodie Foster. But her biggest acting triumph came from Hong Kong with the film Dumplings in 2004.

She won Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her role as a dumpling maker with disturbing ingredients. That recognition validated her range in dark drama, far from the Hollywood spotlight.

There was no turning back.

Her presence on red carpets began to overshadow her acting work in the American tabloid press. She then decided to take refuge in independent film and low-budget fantasy productions. In 2009, she shot Crank: High Voltage alongside Jason Statham, pushing the theatrical tone of her character to the limit.

The B-Movie Refuge

Throughout the 2010s and 2020s, her work rate never dropped below three or four films a year. In 2023, she appeared in Johnny & Clyde and in the horror film Night of the Caregiver. Her filmography already tops one hundred registered titles, including shorts and feature films.

She averages five film shoots a year for independent production companies seeking her physical magnetism. In 2024, she worked on The Haunted Studio under the direction of Paul Parlow.
