Berk Hakman was born in Ankara on August 14, 1981. His father, Ataman Hakman, was a dentist by profession but a musician at heart, and that duality shaped his relationship with art from childhood. Before stepping onto a stage, he studied Tourism Management at Akdeniz University. But his artistic drive weighed more than hotels and travel guides.
In 2003, he landed his first role in the horror film Okul. It wasn't a box office hit, but it got casting directors to take notice of his sharp, angular face. Hakman has a gaze that intimidates without him ever having to raise his voice.
And the plan worked.
He moved to Istanbul to study at Mimar Sinan University. There he realized that acting was not a game of poses but an exercise in absolute restraint. Hakman prefers silence to the overacting that so often floods Turkish television dramas.
In 2012 he played Gurur Kutay in the series Suskunlar. It was a demanding role because his character was the antagonist of a story about childhood revenge. He made viewers feel a strange mix of hatred and pity. That role gave him international exposure that crossed borders, reaching Spanish screens years later.
Yet massive fame makes him uneasy. Hakman avoids red carpets and empty interviews about his private life. He prefers to shut himself in his studio to play guitar or bass. In 2014, he released several instrumental tracks that show his ear is as refined as his ability to cry on camera.
Music is his true refuge.
In 2013 he joined the cast of Kaçak to play Ertan Demir. It was a long shoot that wrapped in 2015 after 52 episodes. During that time he refined his technique as a sophisticated villain who needs no weapons to be frightening.
In 2023, director Zeki Demirkubuz cast him in the film Hayat. It's a dense movie that steers clear of typical commercial formulas. Hakman took on the challenge barely reading the script, because he trusts cinema that hurts. The film premiered in December 2023 after several months of editing.
He balanced film work with commercial television to keep his bills under control. Between 2023 and 2024, he worked on the series Ne Gemiler Yaktım, playing the role of Rutkay. It was a big-budget production that required fourteen-hour outdoor shooting days.
Not everything has been smooth sailing in his career.
In 2017, the series Siyah İnci received harsh reviews for its repetitive script. Hakman fulfilled his contract, but his disconnect from the original material was obvious. He learned that money can't make up for an empty character.
In 2023, he also shot Kuzgun: Dipsiz Karanlık for a digital streaming platform. It's a dark story that allowed him to explore pure psychological thriller territory. Filming took place mainly at industrial locations in Istanbul during the winter.
The production company set the final budget for that series at 12 million Turkish lira.
