Cemre Baysel was studying to become an art teacher at the Aegean University when Turkish television knocked on her door for the first time. It was in 2014. She was fifteen years old and had a supporting role in the comedy Yeşil Deniz, which taught her how a professional shoot really worked from the inside.
She wasn't seeking instant fame.
For three years, she balanced paintbrushes with scripts. In 2017, she played Firuze in the historical drama Payitaht: Abdülhamid. That project demanded a restrained dramatic style she had not yet explored in depth, and it required her to work in heavy period costumes.
But the Istanbul industry was quick to see her potential for emotional conflict. In 2018 she took part in Elimi Bırakma, and a year later she joined the cast of the action series Ramo. That 2020 shoot in the city of Adana was physically exhausting because of the high temperatures and the pace of the risky scenes.
Her change of pace came in 2021 with Baht Oyunu. Until then, her career had been built on supporting roles heavy with suffering. But this story of love and superstition earned her the Golden Butterfly award for Breakthrough Actress of the Year.
And audiences responded with massive ratings.
In 2022, she starred in Senden Daha Güzel, playing a dermatologist who moves from Antep to a luxury aesthetic clinic. The series mixed medicine and romance in a light tone. It was a product designed for export that sold to more than twenty countries before its original broadcast in Turkey ended.
Before accepting a role, Baysel usually analyzes the character's psychology to avoid repeating the same performance habits. In 2023, she signed an important contract to lead a big-budget production centered on power relationships among women.
The production of Sakla Beni between 2023 and 2024 revealed a much darker side of her work. The script dealt with themes of obsession and toxic family dynamics that departed from the brightness of her earlier projects. Baysel filmed more than twenty episodes, leading a cast that included veteran names from the Turkish scene.
So she decided to link this project with the series Leyla in 2024. It's an adaptation of a Brazilian telenovela where the weight of the plot falls almost entirely on her shoulders.
Painting is still a personal refuge for her, but the set is where she spends most of her life. In 2024, the production contract for her latest series included a total exclusivity clause that barred her from taking on other advertising projects during eight months of intensive filming.
Filming Leyla in 2024 required fourteen-hour days on outdoor locations along the Istanbul coast.
