From the trading floor to the spotlight

Nur Fettahoğlu was born in the German city of Duisburg in 1980, in an environment far removed from acting. Her family returned to Istanbul, and she ended up enrolling at Haliç University to study fashion design. That degree seemed to be the final destination of her technical training, but television crossed her path before she could open her first studio.

She started out in front of the cameras at Sky Türk as a financial news anchor. Talking about the stock market, markets and interest rates gave her a communication polish that many veteran actors envy. That daily exposure caught the attention of casting directors looking for fresh faces who could handle the pressure of live broadcasting.

And the risk paid off handsomely.

In 2007, she made her debut in the series Benden Baba Olmaz, though massive recognition took a little longer to arrive. It was in 2008 that she landed the role of Peyker Yöreoğlu in Forbidden Love. This production was not only a hit in Turkey but also launched the international expansion of Turkish drama into the Balkans and Latin America. The series ended in 2010, leaving Fettahoğlu in a privileged position to choose her next move.

The weight of the Ottoman crown

Playing a real historical figure carries a political and social weight that most actors prefer to avoid. In 2011, she accepted the challenge of bringing Mahidevran Sultan to life in Magnificent Century. The project was an unprecedented blockbuster production that demanded sixteen-hour shooting days and costumes that weighed several kilos.

Her portrayal of Suleiman the Magnificent's first wife moved away from the usual black-and-white characterizations. She made audiences empathize with a woman displaced by the power of Hürrem Sultan, and she sustained that intensity across four seasons. The series ended in 2014 after being sold to more than seventy countries.

Turkish television was never the same again.

But massive success often brings the danger of being typecast in period roles. Fettahoğlu decided to break away from that image by taking part in Filinta between 2014 and 2016, where she played Süreyya. She sought projects that would let her explore less rigid registers and stay closer to the contemporary reality of Istanbul.

Maturity in Streaming

The rise of digital platforms in Turkey changed the rules of the game for actors of her generation. In 2017, she took part in Fi, the first original web series on the PuhuTV platform. That supporting but key role helped her prove that her face worked just as well in the new formats of quick consumption.

In 2019, she joined the cast of Kardeş Çocukları, and shortly after, in 2020, she took on the role of Eda in Babil. In this later project, she shared the screen with Halit Ergenç again, but under a completely different narrative dynamic. The series explored themes such as financial corruption and personal ethics, somewhat revisiting her roots in financial journalism.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2021, she starred in Kağıt Ev, playing a mother trapped in a web of family lies. It was a short run of just eight episodes that stood out for its raw technical quality. The following year, in 2022, she joined the cast of Darmaduman, a local adaptation of the iconic American teen series Beverly Hills, 90210.

Her personal life has been marked by two marriages and a daughter named Elisa Güzin, born in 2016. After her final divorce from Levent Veziroğlu in 2021, she has kept a low media profile, focusing exclusively on her professional commitments. In 2023, she appeared in the feature film İyi Adamın 10 Günü for Netflix, which was shot under strict confidentiality protocols at various locations in Istanbul.

The production contract for her last television project in 2024 included a territorial exclusivity clause for the Middle East market.
