Ilayda Alişan broke into the industry through the back door, almost without meaning to. Her father worked in advertising and decided to sign her with a talent agency while she was still a high school student. There was no early calling or red carpet dreams in her childhood.
Her first paycheck came from commercial TV ads. But in 2011, scripted television knocked on her door with Bir Çocuk Sevdim. She played Merve over a total of 39 episodes aired on the Kanal D network.
That debut was not an overnight explosion of fame. In the following years, she took part in projects such as Gönül Hırsızı in 2013 and Benim Adım Gültepe in 2014. These were supporting roles that taught her about the downtime on film sets and the technical hierarchy behind the cameras.
And her commitment to consistency paid off.
In 2017, her career made a major leap with Çukur. That crime drama was not just another show on Turkish TV; it was a social phenomenon that brought Istanbul's neighborhoods to a standstill every Monday. Alişan brought Akşın Koçovalı to life, a character marked by trauma and emotional fragility.
Audiences connected with her clear, honest gaze.
That role earned her a nomination for the Altın Kelebek Awards in 2018. It confirmed that her profile fit dense, dark stories. But Alişan decided she didn't want to be typecast in pure drama and began diversifying her script choices.
In 2019, she joined Hakan: Muhafız, known internationally as The Protector. It was Netflix's first foray into the Turkish market and it changed the way productions were made. It was no longer about local audiences, but a showcase available in one hundred ninety countries simultaneously.
In 2021, she starred in Masumiyet. The series tackled gender-based violence and psychological manipulation with unusual rawness. Critics praised her ability to hold long close-ups with almost no supporting dialogue.
The series was canceled after thirteen episodes due to low commercial ratings.
In 2022, she switched genres with Seversin. It was a romantic comedy in which she played Asya, a young woman who ends up working on a film by accident. The project ran for 21 episodes and showed a comedic side that no one had tapped into during her career until then.
In 2023, she joined the cast of Ateş Kuşları. Filming for this production required locations in Istanbul's outlying neighborhoods during winter months, with temperatures below freezing. Contracts for series like this usually include exclusivity clauses that prevent actors from taking on other projects during the broadcast period.
In 2024, the project Aşk, Evlilik, Boşanma set its initial production budget at several million Turkish lira per season.
