Synopsis of The Magnificent Century

Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman sultan with the longest reign, stars in this historical series set in the Ottoman Empire between 1520 and 1566. At 26 years old, Suleiman receives news of his father's death and realizes his own reign is about to begin. Determined to build an empire more powerful than that of Alexander the Great, he wants to make it invincible. His Grand Vizier, Ibrahim, strengthens the rule of law throughout the territory, receives foreign diplomats, and prepares military campaigns, while tension between Christian Europe and the Empire grows in the background. The series was created by Meral Okay and Yılmaz Şahin, first aired on Show TV before moving to Star TV, and stars Halit Ergenç in the lead role.

Trivia about The Magnificent Century

For the shoot, a 2,100-square-meter set was built, where a team of 30 sculptors and painters created exact replicas of the structures. Production began five months before the first broadcast.
The series cost a total of 130 million Turkish lira, making it the most expensive project in Turkish television.
The regulator RTÜK said it had received more than 70,000 complaints about the series and asked Show TV to publicly apologize for exposing the private life of a historical figure.
The series reached roughly two hundred million viewers in fifty-two countries, according to a figure cited in an analysis of the production.
In Pakistan, Halit Ergenç won the first International Icon Award at the Lux Style Awards, the country's biggest awards ceremony, in 2017.
In Bangladesh, where it aired dubbed into Bengali as Sultan Suleiman, it earned the highest ratings in the country's television during its first two months, in 2015.
In the scene where Suleiman visits his son Şehzade Mustafa at the Manisa palace, the floor is covered in parquet, which critics say was not used at Versailles until 1684.
A movie project based on "Muhteşem Yüzyıl" was canceled in 2014 because it was difficult to reunite the cast before the planned release.
