Synopsis of Spartacus: House of Ashur

Ashur, a former gladiator, did not die on Mount Vesuvius. In ancient Rome, in an alternate timeline, the emperor rewards him for helping to put down a slave rebellion with the ludus that once belonged to his former master, Quintus Lentulus Batiatus. Six months after the events of Spartacus: War of the Damned, Ashur takes over the gladiator school, but the Roman elite still treats him with contempt. Along with the ludus come his slaves Hilara and Messiah, and Korris, the trainer in charge of the fighters. Ashur wants to earn a place among the powerful, and to do so he stages spectacles that defy Rome. Created by Steven S. DeKnight and starring Nick E. Tarabay, the series airs on Starz.

Trivia about Spartacus: House of Ashur

In July 2024, it was confirmed that Lucy Lawless would reprise her role as Lucretia in a guest appearance.

Jackson Gallagher replaced Todd Lasance as Julius Caesar, a switch that was revealed in July 2025.

The series premiered on November 19, 2025 at the Landmark Theatre in Westwood, Los Angeles, with a screening of its first two episodes.

Starz canceled the series on May 22, 2026, after one season, even though DeKnight had confirmed in February that the second season was already written.

The first season ended in February 2026 after ten episodes, and reports about the cancellation attribute the decision to insufficient viewership.

The series earned a 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, compared with 63% from users.
