Synopsis of The Day of the Jackal

A lone, hard-to-track hitman works for whoever pays him best. His codename is The The Day of the Jackal, and Eddie Redmayne brings him to life. After one of his jobs, his path crosses that of Bianca Pullman, a British MI6 agent played by Lashana Lynch, who is determined not to let him slip away. She starts tracking him, and the hunt turns into a chase across Europe against a contemporary political backdrop. He moves through disguises and aliases, always one step ahead; she must reconstruct his movements before he strikes again. The series, created by Ronan Bennett, airs on Sky Atlantic.

Trivia about The Day of the Jackal

Frederick Forsyth, author of the original novel, served as consulting producer on the series.

Chicago Sun-Times critic Richard Roeper gave it three and a half stars out of four and noted that each of its ten episodes feels more like a movie than a TV episode.

The series received two Golden Globe nominations, for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor for Redmayne.

The exterior shots of the The Day of the Jackal's estate were filmed in Rabac, Croatia, as part of a shoot that spanned four countries.

Redmayne explained that he chose the project because the idea of spending time with this enigmatic character struck him as great material to explore.

«The Day of the Jackal» became the most-watched Sky Original on the platform, drawing three million viewers in its first week.

Sky and Peacock renewed «The Day of the Jackal» for a second season in November 2024, although no exact premiere date had been confirmed yet.
