Synopsis of Money Heist

A mysterious man known as the Professor plans the biggest heist in history: to break into the Royal Mint of Spain in Madrid and print his own loot there. To carry it out, he recruits eight people with specific skills and one thing in common: they have nothing to lose. For five months, they memorize every step of the plan, every detail and every possible setback. Then the group barricades itself inside the mint with dozens of hostages, while the police surround the building. Tokyo, a fugitive thief who narrates the story, has been part of the team from the very beginning. The series, created by Álex Pina, airs on Antena 3 and Netflix, and stars Úrsula Corberó and Álvaro Morte.

Trivia about Money Heist

The series is inspired by the methods of bank robber Willie Sutton, who pulled off more than 100 heists using disguises and deception, without ever needing to shoot anyone.

"Bella Ciao," an Italian anti-fascist song, became a summer hit across Europe in 2018 and plays several times throughout the series.

The robbers' masks depict the face of Salvador Dalí, chosen for his recognizable look and for being a cultural icon of Spain.

Netflix renewed the series in April 2018 with a significantly larger budget for 16 new episodes in total.

Because the series was conceived as a miniseries, all the sets were destroyed after filming the part 2 finished.

The real Bank of Spain was not available for visits or filming for security reasons, so the producers recreated the bank on a two-level set.

Neymar filmed scenes as a monk for part 3, but they were not included in the broadcast until the criminal charges against him were dropped in August 2019.

The spin-off "Berlin" was the most-watched series in the world during its premiere week and entered Netflix's Top 10 in 91 countries, with 348 million hours viewed and 53 million views.
