In Vitoria, in 2019, Inspector Unai López de Ayala, known as Kraken, works as a criminal profiler. He lives on Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, and his job is to understand the minds of killers. Soon, two naked young people turn up dead in the Old Cathedral of the Alavan capital, arranged in a way that suggests a macabre ritual. Kraken must hunt down the person responsible, a killer who has been terrorizing the city for two decades. Javier Rey stars as the lead in this film directed by Daniel Calparsoro, alongside Belén Rueda. The start of the investigation pits the inspector against a case that seems to repeat the methods of earlier crimes.

Initially, Jordi Mollà was set to play the Zárate twins, but the role ended up going to Alex Brendemühl. The change of actor took place before filming began.

Some scenes had to be shot outside Vitoria, because filming during the local festivities in the city was not possible. The director's notes confirm this.

On its opening weekend, the film earned 600,000 euros, placing it as the second-best weekly release, behind only The Addams Family (2019).

Daniel Calparsoro told La Vanguardia in an interview that the novel had persuaded him more than the adapted screenplay. The director did not write the screenplay, which was credited to Alfred Pérez Fargas and Roger Danés.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 31%, based on thirteen user reviews. Filmaffinity gave it a score of 4.7 with 1748 votes.
