Aura Garrido left the official training program at RESAD when real work became too demanding for the classroom. In 2010, the industry put her in the spotlight with her Goya nomination for Planes para mañana. She was not the typical passing young actress.
There was something dry and direct in the way she commanded the frame.
In 2013, she decided conventional cinema wasn't enough and leapt into the unknown with Stockholm. The film was crowdfunded and shot in just thirteen days. Yet this small project ended up earning her a second Goya nomination and an award at the Málaga Film Festival.
And the gamble paid off.
That performance as a nameless woman convinced casting directors that Garrido could hold a close-up without saying a single word. In her style, silence carries more weight than shouting. So she began choosing projects where restraint was the rule rather than the exception.
In 2015, the project that changed her relationship with a mass audience arrived. El Ministerio del Tiempo put her at the head of a patrol of time agents as Amelia Folch. It was a character written with a ruler (an enlightened 19th-century woman in a man's world), which she handled with unusual restraint.
The success was immediate with critics and fans of the series. But Garrido did not get stuck in television fame. In 2017, she shot La piel fría under the direction of Xavier Gens and spent hours under layers of makeup to play an amphibious creature.
El silencio también se entrena.
That physical experience was a turning point. It showed she didn't mind hiding her face when the role demanded superior technical effort. In 2018, she starred in The Day After Tomorrow for Movistar Plus and returned to the restrained dramatic style that had already become her trademark.
In 2024, she premiered Santuario on Atresplayer (a dystopian science fiction series produced by Álex de la Iglesia). She plays Valle, an engineer who must navigate moral dilemmas in a world where motherhood is controlled by a climate dome. It's a role that demands absolute technical coolness.
But in 2025, she broke her own mold with Entrepreneurs. This Disney Plus series, created by the duo Pantomima Full, took her out of drama and into a satire about the business world and coworking spaces. She plays Julia Castellanos, an executive who returns from New York to save a rundown family business.
It was her first real foray into dry humor, and it worked because she brought the same seriousness she used for historical dramas. In 2025, she also shot the film La sospecha de Sofía alongside Álex González, returning to the suspense tone that has always suited her.
For 2026, the feature film Todo arde is scheduled for release. The production calendar places her next major project in 2027 with the series Nueve reinas, where she will share the cast with Álvaro Morte. The production has an estimated budget of 2.5 million euros per episode.
