At six years old, Ray Loriga put him in front of a camera in La pistola de mi hermano. He had clear eyes, an innocent expression and no early vocation for sets. Back then, Maximiliano Teodoro Iglesias Acevedo preferred spending his afternoons playing organized soccer on the dirt fields of Madrid.

In 2008, the premiere of Physics or Chemistry shook up that school-day normality within weeks. His character, César Cabano, went from being a fictional student at Zurbarán to dominating binders and teen magazine covers. The phenomenon broke Antena 3's ratings meters, with numbers well above a 20 percent prime-time audience share every Monday.

The Trap of the Designer Heartthrob

Surviving a generational series takes calculation. During that first stage, commercial cinema tried to exploit his looks without restraint in films such as Sex, Party and Lies in 2009, a movie directed by Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes that drew thousands of moviegoers. That kind of cinema aimed to portray the nighttime excess of an anesthetized youth. But typecasting threatened to devour the actor before he turned twenty-two.

In 2012, the first serious warning sign from box office and critics came with Toledo, cruce de destinos. This ambitious period drama cost a fortune per episode and aimed to dominate Tuesday nights. The ratings flop of Toledo canceled the series after thirteen episodes and forced the actor to rethink his career path.

So he accepted a supporting role in Velvet in 2014. He played Max, a gallery clerk who had a mature, secret romance with the character played by Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. It was a smart move, because sharing a set every day with veteran actors helped him learn the craft from a much less exposed position.

The Transatlantic Bridge

Rather than settling into national fiction, Maxi Iglesias packed his bags when few in his field dared to cross the pond. In 2015, he landed in Miami to shoot the telenovela Dueños del paraíso for the American network Telemundo. It was an industrial-paced shoot with marathon days of memorizing lines that broke the habits he had picked up in Madrid.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2017, Netflix signed him in Mexico to co-star in Ingobernable alongside Kate del Castillo. Filming on the other side of the Atlantic allowed him to shake off the condescending gaze of the Spanish industry. That same year, he returned to Madrid's Gran Vía to make his debut on the stage of the Coliseum Theatre in the musical The Bodyguard, where he played Frank Farmer in demanding daily performances.

The Algorithm and the Ink

In 2020, the arrival of Valeria reshaped his on-screen presence. As Víctor, the charming architect created by novelist Elísabet Benavent, he refined an urban romantic comedy formula that connected with international audiences over four consecutive seasons. In 2021 he balanced that style with period costumes in La cocinera de Castamar, and in 2023 he led Los artistas: primeros trazos, a production shot between Spain and Florida based on an original idea by María Dueñas.

Not every actor survives his own poster.

In 2025, he opened a parallel career path with the publication of Horizonte artificial under the Roca Editorial imprint. It is a thriller centered on corporate intrigue in the textile industry, where he set acting aside to explore pure fiction writing.

In 2024, he shot the episodes of Ella, maldita alma on the Galician coast, a Mediaset production based on a short story by Manuel Rivas. The shoot required the crew to work outdoors in harsh weather under a filming schedule of twelve consecutive weeks with a budget of more than four million euros.
