Blanca Romero landed in film after already having conquered half the world on the runways of Paris and Tokyo. Her face was a constant presence in the fashion magazines of the nineties. But her leap into acting in 2008 was no whim of a bored model.
It was a matter of instinct.
In 2008, she stepped into the role of Irene in the TV series Física o Química. That role as a teacher in a teen drama gave her a visibility the industry didn't expect. And she did it with a naturalness that disarmed even the most skeptical critics of the time.
Alberto Rodríguez cast her in After in 2009. It was her first major film. That performance earned her a Goya nomination for Best New Actress at the 2010 ceremony. She didn't take the statuette home, but she erased any doubts about her dramatic ability on camera in one stroke.
And the gamble paid off.
The Spanish film industry saw in her an unusual profile. She had a beauty the camera adored, but also an emotional edge that suited auteur cinema. Because Blanca Romero never sought to be the girl next door.
There were years of voluntary silence in Gijón. The actress never went along with the game of constant exposure unless there was a script that truly interested her. She preferred raising her children away from the Madrid spotlight and managing her career with a calm that is rare in the industry.
In 2015, she returned to national television with Bajo sospecha. She played Inspector Laura Ortega in a police drama that hooked audiences. But she decided to leave the project after the first season, for reasons that were never fully explained in the production company's press notes.
Her relationship with fashion was always on and off but lucrative. In 2017, she returned to collaborations with luxury brands while choosing short film roles. She was never in a hurry to build up credits on her filmography.
In 2023, she decided to take part in the eighth season of MasterChef Celebrity. The show revealed a much more down-to-earth and less polished side than the one cosmetics brands were selling. She reached the semifinals of the competition with a low-profile strategy and a lot of hard work in the kitchen.
Not everything in her career was applause.
In 2024, she premiered the film La Abadesa, directed by Antonio Chavarrías. She plays Eloísa in a historical drama set in the 9th century. Filming took place on location in Huesca and the Ampurdán region during the winter of that same year.
The film's production budget was set at three million euros.
