Cold Skin

In 1914, a young Irishman travels to a remote island in the South Atlantic to work as a weather observer. Upon arriving, he discovers he is not alone. Gruner, the lighthouse keeper, is the island's only other inhabitant, and he keeps watch over a crude, reinforced structure facing the vast sea. The newcomer searches for his predecessor, but Gruner assures him that the previous observer died of typhus and that there is no body. Directed by Xavier Gens, the film opens with this setup: a man newly arrived in an isolated place, a companion who is hiding something, and the need to stay there.
