Synopsis of The White Queen

England, 1464. For nine years, the country has been torn apart by the Wars of the Roses, with the houses of York and Lancaster, two branches of the Plantagenet family, fighting for the throne. The series follows three women who, from behind the scenes, steer events to gain power for themselves and their families. Elizabeth Woodville, played by Rebecca Ferguson, is a Yorkist married to King Edward IV. Margaret Beaufort, played by Amanda Hale, belongs to the Lancastrians and is the mother of Henry Tudor. Anne Neville, played by Faye Marsay, is also from York. The production, created by Philippa Gregory, airs on BBC One.

Trivia about The White Queen

The budget was £25 million and filming lasted 120 days, with 250 sets including dungeons, palaces, castles, and 12 state banquets, as well as at least two coronations.
Two edited versions were made: one for the BBC and another, more sexually explicit version for the United States.
The series received three nominations at the 71 Golden Globes, two of them for the performances of Ferguson and McTeer.
Barbara Ellen of The Observer compared the series to a Timotei ad and said the sex scenes were so bland that she ended up craving ice cream.
On August 20, 2013, the BBC announced it would not commission a second season, possibly due to the series' lukewarm reception.
Philippa Gregory presented the two-part documentary The Real White Queen and Her Rivals, which BBC Two aired on July 17 and 24, 2013.
Rebecca Ferguson landed the role of Elizabeth Woodville the night before the first script reading and, after a crash course in horseback riding, arrived on set in Bruges three days later.
The production was mainly shot in Belgium to take advantage of tax incentives, while its Flemish architecture helped reduce the need for digital effects.
