Synopsis of Midsomer Murders

Midsomer Murders is a British crime drama that has aired on ITV since 1997, created by Anthony Horowitz and Caroline Graham based on the latter's books. The setting is Midsomer, a fictional county in England whose capital is Causton, a midsize city where Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, played by John Nettles, lives with his wife and works in the Major Crime Investigation Department. The villages in the area are as peaceful and picturesque as they are dangerous. Barnaby arrives in each locality to solve a series of deaths, trying to figure out who is responsible and what motivates their actions. The show blends intrigue with a strong dose of dark humor.

Trivia about Midsomer Murders

The first episode was the most-watched one-off drama of 1997, with 13.5 million viewers.
In 2004, the series was among the three best-selling British TV shows in the world, whether as programming or on DVD.
Only three murders in the entire series take place outside the fictional county of Midsomer, and one of them happens in Copenhagen.
The Six Bells pub in Warborough appears several times as the Black Swan in the fictional village of Badger's Drift.
The music is by Jim Parker, and its main theme is performed mainly on the theremin, an unusual electronic instrument.
An episode from the sixteenth season was filmed on 11 August 2013 at White Waltham Airfield, southwest of Maidenhead.
In March 2011, producer Brian True-May was suspended by All3Media after telling Radio Times that the show had no non-white celebrities.
ITV and All3Media International have renewed the series for a 26th season of four long-form episodes, which will bring the total available to 148 and is scheduled for 2026.
