Trivia about Breaking Bad

Showtime turned down the series because it already aired Weeds, which had similarities to the premise of Breaking Bad. Gilligan later said he would not have pursued the idea had he known about it earlier.

AMC executives were reluctant to cast Bryan Cranston, whom they knew only from his role as Hal in Malcolm in the Middle. Gilligan had seen him earlier in The X-Files.

To reflect Walter's decline, Bryan Cranston gained 4.5 kg and dyed his reddish hair brown. The series showed this from its very first episodes.

In 2013, Mythbusters devoted a special to Breaking Bad in which it tested two scenes from the first season. Both myths were busted, despite some modifications.

Gilligan thanked Netflix at the September 2013 Emmys for the show's popularity, because it had kept the series on the air.

In September, Breaking Bad entered the Guinness World Records as the highest-rated series in history, with a score of 99 out of 100 on Metacritic for its fifth season.

Dave Porter avoided Western orchestral instrumentation and used ethnic instruments, field recordings, vintage and modern synthesizers, and electric guitar in the soundtrack.

The series was almost set in Riverside, California, but it moved to New Mexico because tax incentives lowered production costs.
