Synopsis of Narcos: Mexico

Narcos: Mexico follows the origins of Mexico's drug trafficking in the 1980s, when traffickers were still a disorganized network of small marijuana growers and independent dealers. Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, played by Diego Luna, decides to unify the country's territories to build a drug empire, and so the Guadalajara Cartel is born. Opposing him is Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent played by Michael Peña. Camarena moves with his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara, and his mission is to track down Félix's organization. The series, created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, streams on Netflix, and the clash between the two sides drives the plot.

Trivia about Narcos: Mexico

In July 2018, Netflix announced that the fourth season of Narcos would be "rebooted" with an almost entirely new cast, becoming an original series titled Narcos: Mexico.
Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location scout for the series, was shot dead on September 15, 2017 near Temascalapa, and the case remains unsolved.
The first season has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 39 reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10.
Wagner Moura, who played Pablo Escobar in the original Narcos, directed two episodes of the third season.
Julio César Cedillo landed the role of Commander Guillermo González Calderoni after receiving specially written scenes for the audition that were not part of the series; he got confirmation about two months later.
Michael Peña said Eric Newman offered him the role of Kiki Camarena about three years before filming, but the project was put on hold until the producer reached out again roughly a year and a half later.
Alberto Zeni auditioned six times for different roles in the franchise before being called back for another test and finally landing a recurring character in the second season.
Luis Gerardo Méndez estuvo a punto de perder su papel porque los productores lo consideraban demasiado delgado; para interpretar al agente Víctor Tapia ganó más de 13 kilos.
