In its premiere week, it drew 20.6 million viewers and 113.8 million hours viewed, three days after its release.

Filming began on January 17, 2022 in Los Angeles, although the story is set in Miami.

The family of Griselda Blanco sued Netflix and Sofía Vergara in January 2024 for unauthorized use of her image, identity and material provided in interviews; the case was definitively dismissed in February of that year.

Although the story takes place in Miami, not a single scene was shot in Florida; one of the series' homes was filmed at a former psychiatric institution and hospital in Pomona, California.

Sofía Vergara was nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for playing Griselda Blanco.
