Starting from scratch has never tasted so good.

Carl Casper is the head chef at Gauloises, an upscale restaurant in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. His kitchen staff admires him, but he keeps clashing with the restaurant's owner, who wants a safe, traditional menu instead of the innovative cuisine he wants to create. Outside the kitchen, his relationship with his ex-wife, Inez, is strained, and he doesn't get along well with his tech-savvy preteen son, Percy. When Carl suddenly quits his job, he finds himself out of work and has to figure out his next move.

Trivia about Chef

Before filming, Favreau spent time with restaurateur Roy Choi at his restaurants and worked as part of his kitchen crew after attending a culinary school.
To prepare for the role of Martin, the line cook, John Leguizamo worked as a real cook at The Lion in New York's West Village.
Much of the dialogue in the food truck scenes between Favreau, Leguizamo and Emjay Anthony was improvised to capture the atmosphere of a real kitchen.
Miami locations included the Versailles restaurant, the Fontainebleau hotel and the Cuban club Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana.
