Synopsis of Friends

Six friends in their twenties meet at Central Perk, a coffee shop in New York City that becomes their hangout spot. Monica Geller, Chandler Bing, Phoebe Buffay and Joey Tribbiani are the first to appear, and Ross Geller and Rachel Green arrive soon after. All of them live in Manhattan and deal with love, work, the past and the future as they try to make their way in a city where adult life is not easy. The sitcom, created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane, airs on NBC and focuses on friendship, on the good and bad moments they go through together, and on how those bonds keep their dreams alive.

Trivia about Friends

NBC executives feared the coffee shop was too modern and asked for the show to be set in a restaurant, but they eventually agreed to the coffee shop concept.
Each 22-minute episode took six hours to film, twice as long as most sitcoms, mainly due to retakes and script rewrites.
Although the show is set in New York, it was never filmed in the city, since Bright believed the live audience was an integral part of the series and that filming on location took away from the episodes.
The season four finale was filmed in London, recorded in front of three audiences of 500 people each, the largest of the entire series.
Cox wanted the role of Monica, but the producers had her in mind for Rachel because of her cheerful, optimistic energy. After her audition, Kauffman changed her mind and Cox got the part of Monica.
The final episode was watched by about 52.5 million American viewers, placing it as the fifth most-watched series finale in U.S. television history.
The stars earned 22,500 dollars per episode in the first season and a million dollars per episode in seasons nine and ten, which made Aniston, Cox and Kudrow the highest-paid television actresses in history.
David Schwimmer was the first actor cast in "Friends", because Marta Kauffman and David Crane had written the character of Ross with him in mind after working together before.
