Synopsis of The West Wing

Josiah Bartlet, the Democratic president of the United States, played by Martin Sheen, leads one of the most powerful nations in the world with the conviction that what he does is best for his country. The series is set in the West Wing of the White House in Washington, D.C., where the Oval Office and the offices of the president's key advisers are located. Through hallways, offices and meeting rooms, his team works against the clock to solve daily problems that never let up. Each crisis puts the government's credibility to the test ahead of upcoming reelections and the security of a nation facing external threats. Created by Aaron Sorkin and aired on NBC, the series follows that team as it tries to maintain the trust of the citizens.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has cited the series as a significant influence on the creation of his musical Hamilton.
In 2011, The New York Times reported that the then-emerging government of Myanmar used DVDs of the series' episodes to study democracy.
