Synopsis of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

Stuart Bloom runs Comic Center, a comic book shop, until he accidentally breaks a device that Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter and Howard Wolowitz had built. The mishap threatens to unleash a multiversal Armageddon, and Stuart has to stop it. To do so, he travels between parallel universes, where he runs into alternate versions of himself and his friends. Denise, Bert Kibbler and Barry Kripke join him on a mission that gets more complicated at every step. Kevin Sussman stars as Stuart in this science fiction comedy created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady, which streams on HBO Max.

«Every universe needs a hero. We got Stuart.»

Trivia about Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

Each episode features a different arrangement of the theme song, signed by composer Danny Elfman, within an opening sequence that breaks the fourth wall and asks viewers not to use the "Skip Titles" option.
Lorre explained that he designed the opening sequence this way to encourage viewers to watch it before each episode, because he opposes streaming platforms letting people skip intros.
Kenneth Shepard, writing for Kotaku, notes that the opening sequence images seemed possibly generated by artificial intelligence, although the creators have not said whether they are.
Penn and Teller appear as themselves, and Teller had already played Amy's father, Larry Fowler, on The Big Bang Theory.
Christine Baranski appears as herself. She previously played Beverly Hofstadter, Leonard's mother, on The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of 78%, based on 43 reviews. Metacritic gives it a score of 62 out of 100 based on 19 critics.
HBO Max renewed the series for a second season in August 2026, ahead of its premiere on the service.
