Synopsis of Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the support crew of the USS Cerritos, a low-profile ship within Starfleet, in the year 2380. While the captains and high-ranking officers take the bridge, the series follows the ensigns on the lower decks. Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, D'Vana Tendi and Sam Rutherford try to do their jobs while maintaining their social lives. All of this happens as the ship is shaken by a series of sci-fi anomalies that disrupt their routine. Mike McMahan created the series, which aired on CBS All Access and later on Paramount+, with the voices of Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero.

Trivia about Star Trek: Lower Decks

The idea came about when Mike McMahan suggested, during an animation meeting, a series about the people who put the yellow cartridge in the replicator to make a banana appear.
The Cerritos is a Next Generation version of the USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), McMahan's favorite ship in the franchise.
The Cerritos crew uniforms are based on designs that were never used for the movie Star Trek Generations, from 1994.
Composer Chris Westlake thought it would be funnier for sincere music to accompany a comedy series, which is why the main theme includes a choir.
McMahan wanted the animation to recall the prime-time comedies he grew up with, such as The Simpsons and Futurama.
The series earned strong reviews and several honors, including three nominations at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys and a Hugo Award.
McMahan chose the city of Cerritos because he only knew it from the ads for Cerritos Auto Square car dealerships.
Season five was the last of "Star Trek: Lower Decks": in April 2024, Paramount+ confirmed that the show would end after 50 episodes, although Mike McMahan left open the possibility of continuing its stories in movies, comics, books or video games.
