The Art of Not Getting in the Way on Screen

Eugene Cordero isn't chasing traditional stardom. Born in Detroit, he trained on the stages of the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB). There he learned that comedy isn't about being the funniest person in the room, but about listening to your scene partner so you can hand back the perfect line. That discipline allowed him to move from pure improv to the rigid structure of major television productions.

In his early years in Los Angeles, he landed tiny roles in series such as The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm. They weren't showcase parts, but they taught him the rhythm of professional shoots. Most importantly, he began building a network of contacts in the alternative comedy scene that would bring him his best moments years later.

In 2017 he played Pillboi in the series The Good Place. It was a supporting role in which he played Jason Mendoza's best friend in Florida. His portrayal of a small-time criminal with a good heart resonated with audiences thanks to its naturalness. But what truly changed his career trajectory was his ability to hold his own alongside actors of the caliber of Ted Danson.

Comedy is a grind.

From Anonymity to the Gears of Marvel

In 2021 he joined the cast of Loki to bring Casey to life, a clerk at the Time Variance Authority. In the first season his role was almost incidental (that famous scene about what a fish is). But the writers recognized that his presence brought a much-needed humanity to such a sterile, bureaucratic setting.

For the second season of Loki in 2023, his character was promoted to a series regular and became the hunter K-5E. The change posed a different physical and dramatic challenge. He no longer had to rely only on dry office humor but also had to take part in the action storyline of a Disney blockbuster. And he did it without losing the everyday-guy quality that makes him so relatable to viewers.

Before breaking into Marvel, he had already proven his voice-acting talent. In 2020 he voiced Ensign Rutherford in Star Trek: Lower Decks. The role demanded a very specific vocal energy (an enthusiastic engineer with a cybernetic implant that sometimes malfunctions). The animated series let him explore a more exaggerated range than his live-action work.

In 2022 he appeared in the film Easter Sunday alongside comedian Jo Koy. The movie was shot mainly on location in Vancouver over 34 days of production. It was an important project for the Filipino American community in the United States, and Cordero brought his experience handling complex family dynamics on screen.

His role in Tacoma FD from 2019 to 2023 as Andy Myawani confirmed that he is a true ensemble actor. He loves working on ensemble casts where chemistry between performers matters more than individual showing off. As a result, his schedule is often packed with projects where directors want a safe bet who won't cause problems on set.

The contract for his involvement in The Mandalorian in 2020 was closed under a standard confidentiality agreement with Lucasfilm Ltd.
