The Holdovers

Nobody likes Professor Paul Hunham (Giamatti), not his students, his colleagues, or the principal of the prep school where he teaches; everyone finds his pomposity and rigidity exasperating. With no family and nowhere to go during the 1970 Christmas break, Paul stays at the school to supervise the students who couldn't travel home. After a few days, only one student is left: a troubled 15-year-old named Angus, a good student whose bad behavior constantly threatens to get him expelled. Alongside Paul and Angus is cook Mary (Randolph), an African American woman who serves privileged kids and whose own son recently lost his life in Vietnam. These three very different castaways will form an unlikely family during two snowy weeks in New England.
