Detachment

A high school full of troubled students with very poor academic results welcomes Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher with a real gift for connecting with students. But Henry prefers to ignore his talent. Working only as a substitute, he never stays at a school long enough to build an emotional bond with his students or colleagues. When he arrives at this school, where a frustrated administration has left the students totally apathetic, Henry soon becomes a role model for the teenagers. He forms an emotional connection with the students, the other teachers and a teenage prostitute he picks up off the street. Perhaps thanks to them, he realizes he is not alone in his desperate search for beauty in a world that seems to lack love and is full of evil.
