In the fall of 1959, Todd Anderson begins his junior year of high school at Welton Academy, a boys' boarding school in Vermont. His roommate is Neil Perry, one of the school's top students, who introduces him to his circle of friends. Todd arrives not really knowing what to expect from such a strict school. One day, a new literature teacher, John Keating, shows up and asks his students to step into the hallway before entering class. There, he recites a poem by Walt Whitman dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, "O Captain! My Captain!" Directed by Peter Weir and starring Robin Williams, the film explores the clash between an unconventional teacher and an institution governed by tradition, honor, discipline and excellence.

When you read, don't just consider what the author thinks, consider what you think.
There's a time for daring and there's a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for.
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.
Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation." Don't be resigned to that. Break out! Break out! Now is the time!
[Last words of film] Thank you, boys. Thank you.
