Synopsis of Louie

Louie is a New York comedian who has just gone through a divorce and is raising his two daughters, Lilly and Jane, while trying to balance fatherhood with his stand-up career. Between household chores, dates and get-togethers with fellow comics, his life is shaped by the struggles of a single father who doesn't always know what to do. The series doesn't follow the structure of a conventional sitcom. Each episode combines two stories that may or may not be connected, or a single plot split into short segments, and interspersed throughout are clips of his performances in New York clubs. Louis C.K. creates, writes, directs and stars in it, and it airs on FX.

Trivia about Louie

Louis C.K. turned down a bigger-budget production offer and accepted $200,000 to shoot the pilot with FX, which gave him full creative control.

Louis C.K. is the sole writer and director of the series, an unusual setup in American television production.

Louis C.K. edits many episodes on his personal MacBook Pro, and the show is shot with a Red camera.

Ben Gazzara was the first choice for the role of Jack Dall, but he died the same day he was set to be hired. David Lynch ultimately played the part.

Critics Alan Sepinwall and Matt Zoller Seitz ranked the series #18 on their list of the greatest American TV shows of all time in their book TV (The Book).

Ashley Gerasimovich played Jane in the first four episodes of season one, before Ursula Parker took over the role.

Pamela Adlon, who had starred in C.K.'s previous sitcom, Lucky Louie, served as a consulting producer on the series.

Season five of "Louie" ran eight episodes instead of the planned thirteen or fourteen because Louis C.K. asked FX to delay production, and after changing his mind, much of the budget had already been reallocated.
