Synopsis of Robot Chicken

A chicken run over on the road is brought back to life as a robot by a mad scientist, who forces it to watch violent TV shows as a form of torture. That opening explains the title of Robot Chicken, a stop-motion animated series created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. The characters are toy figures that portray pop culture icons, and there is no continuous plot: each episode strings together short, unrelated sketches. The premise is to riff on TV shows, movies, video games and celebrities with a satirical tone. Green, besides directing the project, voices many of the characters, while the guest cast changes with each installment.

Trivia about Robot Chicken

Before settling on its name, the series considered other titles such as Junk in the Trunk, The Deep End or Toyz in the Attic. Some of them ended up as episode titles in the first season.
The name comes from a dish on the menu of a Chinese restaurant in West Hollywood, Kung Pao Bistro, where Green and Senreich had eaten dinner.
Several networks and sketch shows turned down the project, including Comedy Central, MTV, MADtv, Saturday Night Live and Cartoon Network itself.
The Star Wars special episode was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 in the category of Outstanding Animated Program (One Hour or Less).
The series grew out of Sweet J Presents, a 12-episode stop-motion miniseries released in 2001 on Sony's Screenblast.com website.
In Latin America, the Spanish dub covered only the first three seasons, which aired on Cartoon Network.
Seth Green announced in 2024 that «Robot Chicken» would leave behind its 20-episode seasons to produce periodic specials; the first one, «The Robot Chicken Self-Discovery Special», premiered on July 20, 2025.
«Robot Chicken» has won six Emmy Awards, including those for Outstanding Short-Form Animated Program in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
