Synopsis of The Big Bang Theory

Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper are two physicists at Caltech who share an apartment in Pasadena, California. Brilliant in their work, they are socially awkward and barely know how to deal with people outside their world, especially women. Their routine is thrown off when Penny, an aspiring actress who works as a waitress, moves into the apartment across the hall. Leonard falls for her right away and sets out to win her over, while Sheldon, with his obsessive-compulsive routine, is unable to adapt to change. Their friends Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali orbit around them, just as geeky and with their own difficulties connecting with others. The comedy, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, airs on CBS and stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco.

Trivia about The Big Bang Theory

The original pilot used "She Blinded Me with Science" by Thomas Dolby as its theme music.

Ed Robertson, singer of Barenaked Ladies, wrote the theme song after improvising a rap about the origins of the universe at one of the band's concerts.

CBS ordered a full season of 22 episodes, but the first season ended with only 17 episodes filmed after production was halted by the writers' strike.

Galecki, Parsons and Cuoco were paid a maximum of 60 000 dollars per episode in the first three seasons, and 200 000 in the fourth.

The show reached number 1 in the ratings during its eleventh season, after receiving mixed reviews at first.

Jim Parsons won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and the show collected seven Emmys out of 46 nominations.

In 2023, it was reported that Chuck Lorre and Max were developing a new spin-off set in the universe of "The The Big Bang Theory Theory," although neither the story nor the characters had been finalized at that point.

The spin-off "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe" is set to premiere on HBO Max on July 23, 2026, with Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom and Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus and John Ross Bowie reprising their roles.
