Synopsis of Community

Jeff Winger is a silver-tongued lawyer who loses his license to practice after it's revealed that he lied about a college degree. To earn a real one, he enrolls at Greendale Community College, a community college in the fictional town of Greendale, Colorado. There he meets Britta Perry, a former anarchist trying to get her life in order. Hoping to get close to her, Jeff forms a study group for a Spanish class and presents himself as the tutor. Joining him are classmates who couldn't be more different: a filmmaker obsessed with pop culture, a newly divorced evangelical Christian who wants to open her own business, a former star college football player and a wealthy, arrogant and politically incorrect older millionaire. The series, created by Dan Harmon and aired on NBC and Yahoo!, follows the misadventures of this group, led by Joel McHale.

Trivia about Community

Dan Harmon enrolled in a community college in Glendale to try to save his relationship, and the series is based on that real-life experience.

The producers were looking for a "Tracy Flick Latina or Asian," but couldn't find anyone like that, so they cast Alison Brie, who was until then known for Mad Men.

After NBC canceled the show, streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu turned down offers to continue the series.

Chevy Chase had to record all the audio for the scenes in which his character appears as a puppet, as part of his agreement to leave the show.

The episode "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" won a Creative Arts Emmy in 2011 in the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation category.

Community won Hulu's "Best in Show" award in 2012, ahead of 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, New Girl and Modern Family in the first four rounds.

The series used the single-camera technique, in which each shot is filmed individually with the same camera.

Sony Television replaced Dan Harmon as showrunner of Community in 2012, after the series ended its third season with an average of roughly 3.3 million viewers and its lowest ratings.
