Synopsis of The Simpsons

The Simpsons is an animated comedy created by Matt Groening and aired on the Fox network. It follows a middle-class family made up of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, who live in Springfield, a fictional town in the United States. Homer works as a safety inspector at the town's nuclear power plant, a job at odds with his careless, clumsy nature. Marge, his wife, embodies the prototypical American housewife and keeps the household running. Bart, the eldest child, spends his days dreaming up mischief, while Lisa, the smartest, observes the world with a critical eye, and Maggie, the youngest, is still a baby. The series portrays everyday life for the American middle class through a community full of quirky neighbors.

«Just a product of society that's lost its good manners.»

Trivia about The Simpsons

Groening planned to pitch an animated version of his comic strip Life in Hell, but realized that would mean giving up the publishing rights to all of his work. So he improvised the family while waiting in the lobby of Brooks's office.
Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer, recounts that he took the exclamation from James Finlayson, an actor in the Laurel and Hardy comedies. The show's team asked him to shorten it.
In 1992, Tracey Ullman sued Fox, claiming that his show was the origin of the series' success. The courts rejected his claim to a share of the profits.
The Simpsons holds the Guinness World Record for most guest appearances in a TV series. Its episodes often feature voices from actors, athletes, authors, bands and scientists.
Three years later, Fox threatened to cancel the show unless production costs were cut, and the cast agreed to a 30 percent pay cut, down to just over 300,000 dollars per episode.
The season 3 episode "Stark Raving Dad," with Michael Jackson as the voice of Leon Kompowsky, was pulled from rotation in 2019 after HBO aired the documentary Leaving Neverland.
"The Simpsons" reached 800 episodes on February 15, 2026, when FOX aired episodes 800 and 801 back to back; the series had already been renewed through season 40.
Season 37 featured guest voices Michael Keaton and Lindsay Lohan, along with Viola Davis, Kieran Culkin and Idris Elba, and arrived on Disney+ on September 27, 2026.
