Synopsis of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

New York, 1958. Miriam "Midge" Maisel is a young upper-middle-class Jewish housewife who lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side with her husband, Joel. He works as an executive at his uncle's plastics company, but once a week he performs as a comedian at The Gaslight Cafe, copying material from trendy comics. After a mediocre performance, Joel takes his frustration out on Midge and then leaves her for his secretary. Midge, crushed and drunk, returns to the club in her nightgown and delivers an improvised monologue about her situation, until she is arrested for public indecency. That same night, she meets Lenny Bruce, who was arrested for using profanity in his act. The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, stars Rachel Brosnahan, and airs on Prime Video.

Trivia about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The series often uses "oners," extended single-take scenes. One of them, in the episode "Going to the Catskills," lasts two minutes and shows the family moving into their summer house.
In December 2019, the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution acquired two costumes from the series.
In August 2019, Amazon partnered with Santa Monica retailers to sell products at 1959 prices. The gas offer at $0.30 per gallon caused lines and traffic jams that forced police to step in.
Jason Ralph, Rachel Brosnahan's real-life husband, was among the guests in season four, alongside filmmaker John Waters.
The character of Carole Keen, a bassist in Shy Baldwin's orchestra, is very loosely inspired by Carol Kaye, although Kaye considered her portrayal insulting.
The interior of Moishe Maisel's garment factory was filmed at Martin Greenfield Clothier in Bushwick (Brooklyn), although the series sets it in Manhattan's Garment District.
From December 1 to 8, 2018, Amazon ran a pop-up restaurant in Nolita inspired by Carnegie Deli, whose only sandwiches were "The Maisel" and "The Susie."
Season five was the final season of the series and premiered on April 14, 2023; its nine episodes concluded on May 26 of that same year.
